The WiMAX Forum is a non-profit organization consisting of leading industry wireless equipment manufacturers, network operators and system integrators – formed to promote well defined standards and to certify interoperability of broadband wireless equipment conforming to the IEEE 802.16 standard. The goal is to ensure the acceptance and deployment of the technology, and the acceleration to market of products and solutions which are compatible and interoperable across the industry.
This is intended to provide benefits to end users, network operators, service providers, and equipment providers, including economies of scale, leading to
- Lower costs
- Faster growth
- Greater availability of broadband wireless customer solutions
WiMAX solutions are IEEE 802.16 standards-based, and enable fixed, nomadic, portable and eventually, mobile wireless broadband connectivity without the need for direct line-of-sight with a base station.
